Going Red In River Islands For American Heart Month

The health and wellness of our community are very important to River Islands, and February is American Heart Month! This month is dedicated to reminding everyone about the importance of heart health. With heart disease being the top cause of death in Americans, the American Heart Association wants you to know how to decrease your risk of heart disease and keep your heart healthy through LIFE’S ESSENTIAL 8! The Essential Eight include eating a more nutritious diet, being more active, and getting a good night’s sleep.

Throughout February, River Islands is “Going Red” with the AHA! First, The Boathouse will offer heart-healthy menu items, so be sure to taste these delish additions. River Islands Academies will also join us in teaching students the importance of being heart healthy. Looking for some inspiration for a healthier diet? We’ve put together blogs with TASTY RECIPES from the American Heart Association (INCLUDING DESSERTS!)

Finally, on February 19th, from 12 PM to 5 PM, we will hold an event at the Welcome Center to help get you started on your journey to a healthier heart. There will be blood pressure screenings, and the Lathrop-Manteca Fire Department will demonstrate how to perform hands-only CPR correctly. We will also have heart-healthy tastings and experts from AHA in attendance to talk more about why it’s so important to be kind to your heart.

The partnership between the AHA and River Islands will continue all year long. This includes the Annual Heart Walk, which will take place in River Islands! Stay tuned for more information so you and your family can become champions of health by participating in this amazing event.
